Nate vs. Steak

Wow, I’m loving how much you guys want to win homemade cookies!!!  You have until 10am MST to enter, so keep the comments coming on this post and I’ll announce the winner this afternoon!

Last night Nate requested we celebrate his 4th 25th birthday by going to eat at Texas de Brazil.  Now, if you’ve never been to a churascaria before, please note that it’s one of those restaurants you can make yourself sick at.  You have these little red and green cards to turn over if you want gauchos with meat on skewers to bring you more food.  It’s dangerous.

It has a HUGE salad bar (salad, cheeses, breads, olive, sushi rolls, etc), a hot bar (rice/beans, potato gratin, braised mushrooms, and lobster bisque),

AND it’s all you can eat steak. What we have here is flank steak, bacon-wrapped chicken, Brazilian sausage, and lamb.  And this is just the first plate (Nate’s was prettier than mine).  I love that they flame-grill the meat to medium rare and only season it with salt…that’s the best way to do it in my opinion!

Such a man place to pick for a birthday 🙂

On top of it all they bring out these cheese-filled rolls, garlic mashed potatoes, and fried bananas to clear the palate.

I’m thinking about eating a plate of bananas with a piece of steak to clear the palate.  Sounds good to me!

Nate and I entered the place full of confidence.  We’d been there before, we knew what we were doing.  We had carefully eaten all day to be sure to stretch out our stomachs for the ridiculous meal ahead.  Determination was the name of the game.

Ready, set, go!  I don’t even remember how many times the gauchos brought meat over.  There’s SO MUCH MEAT and so little time!  We literally sat there just praying that the food would digest faster so we could eat more.  That’s normal, right?

I have to say, Nate finished with a victory.  Again, I don’t even remember how many plates, but I DO remember that I was about to fall over in my chair from the food coma while there was still food left on my plate while the birthday boy finished off one more piece of garlic sirloin.  My husband is so sexy 🙂

Misery never tasted so good…

I went to an Argentinian steakhouse when I was in Aruba. I learned that South Americans are all about the beef, and you can get some of the best steaks in the world there. This restaurant looks delish!

Our Chicago place like that is called Fogo de Chow – the salad bar was incredible! After a while though my husband was like “if you don’t turn that meat card to green soon, I am turning it over for you!”

Um, and turns out I liked the bacon wrapped filet the most, told the gaucho (sp?) that, and that was the only meat that came my way when my card was green! 😀

I made your coffee cake in a jar – holy cow it was amazing!!

I’ve been to a Brazilian steak house before and I think I didn’t eat for the next three days. Kidding, but I was so crazy full. It’s good meat, but I think you tend to eat way too much of it. I kinda felt off.

Billy is obsessed with Texas de Brazil. They serve an absurd amount of food and it’s SO awesome. One of those places you can’t really go with any intentions to go out afterward…it’s home to the couch. Or bed. 🙂

I think I’ll suggest taking Billy there sometime soon…we live a few blocks from the one in Uptown. So glad y’all had a fun birthday celebration for Nate!

I love churrascarias!! Mmmmm meat. But I can’t really go to one often, because it really is too much!

    Happy birthday to your hubby!

I’ve never been to a Brazillian steakhouse, but I’ve heard about them. They sound fannetastic, but I’m sure my stomach would hurt once I was done.

    Happy B-day Nate!

My boyfriend took me to one last year for Valentine’s day. I think it was more for him, but wow it was good! I felt like I was in an all you can eat contest.

I love these places. I went to one before Christmas and have finally stopped getting everything and just getting my favorite meats. Makes me feel better when I leave.

When Lucas and I got married, our parents had never met — despite the fact that we’d been dating for 5 years!

We decided to take them to Texas de Brazil for a “welcome to the wedding” party two nights before getting hitched. It was perfect, because it was fun, there were things to see and talk about, and Lucas and my brother ended up in an eating contest that lasted nearly 2 hours!

There is a Brazilian steakhouse in Cincy that we’ve never been to. I just mentioned this post to my husband, and no apparently we are going stat. Never mind it’s 9:00 and the streets are a frozen mess. 😉

Oh man! My husband would LOVE to do this for his birthday. I’ve never been — but I’ve heard also that if you go for lunch, it’s a little cheaper, but with the same food. Now, if only we didn’t have full-time jobs, that might work 🙂

There are a few of those restaurants by me. So good! It’s pretty intense when you have that marker flipped to green. There are just so many skewers of meat coming your way!
