I know I’ve been slacking in the travel updates, but we are still trying our hardest to go somewhere new every month!
Let’s see – January we went to Hot Springs, February we went to Pine Bluff, March we traveled to Dallas for Weston’s first birthday party (not new, but still travel!), we didn’t go anywhere in April (oops) and May we went to Keo, Arkansas to figure out what all the fuss was about with Charlotte’s Eats and Sweets. I had a lovely comment from Amy on my Pine Bluff post saying that I needed to check it out, and ever since I kept seeing the name pop up all over the place.
See, I’m not a huge pie person. I like it, but it’s not my favorite dessert in the world.
HOWEVER. If every pie was like what we had at Charlotte’s then I think I could be changing my tune pretty quickly!
I think our first sign (besides the blog comment) that we had that this pie would be fabulous was the fact that when we got there they were erasing every pie flavor off of the white board except for chocolate and caramel – so we promptly ordered a slice of each. Little did we know that we had just ordered the last two pieces of pie they had for the entire day! I felt kind of bad…but maybe not too bad. Because y’all? This pie was AMAZING!
Perfect crust (I’m SUCH a crust snob), creamy filling, amazing meringue topping. Washed it all down with some sweet tea because that’s how we roll on the weekends 😉 We got a grilled cheese for Weston, which I can attest is delicious as well, but it’s all about the pie.
As for the town of Keo, it was rainy the day that we went and it’s a pretty teensy place anyway. We did drive around the neighborhoods, though, and just talked about how different it must be growing up in a small town. I can’t imagine, because I never did, but it seems like it would be a lot of fun!
The little downtown area was really cute with a gazebo and some art on the building walls, plus a firetruck that was for sale – we seriously considered it for a few seconds! Even though it was a small trip for a slice of pie, it just felt great to get out of town a little bit and see some more of this wonderful world we live in. We have a few trips coming up this summer that we’re incredibly excited about exploring and I can’t wait to share with you guys!
Til tomorrow, I love ya’!

My husband and I actually painted the mural. It was fun to do. The original Barq’s sign was so faded it took a while to figure out what it originally looked like.

HOW COOL!!!! Y’all did a great job – I thought it was beautiful!!!

Love, love Charlotte’s. The next time you head that way, go to Cotham’s in Scott. It’s legendary for its hubcap burger — too much for me:) I really recommend that you go by way of Oark on your way to NWA sometime. Precious couple owns it now. Reagan’s known for her pies, and the cheeseburgers are good as well. We’ve traveled most of AR and have lived here all of our lives — if you want more recommendations, please do not hesitate to ask.

I think it’s a fun idea to try and travel some place new each month. I need to be a little more adventurous. I let my anxiety get in the way and fear of going some place I’ve never been before with just me and my daughter, and then I try and stay close to home. I’m going to have to make this a new goal for me.

The best pie ever. I did not lie! So glad you enjoyed my favorite tiny Arkansas town. 🙂
Heather says
You most definitely did not lie girl! So glad you pointed us that direction! 🙂

You really have to try the pie at the Red Rooster in Alma:)

Clearly we have some more exploring to do! I’ll certainly be picking your brain for our next trip 🙂

I love quaint little towns like that! Such neat stuff to find, especially antique stores!
I commented on IG (the nectarine pic) about going to Clarksville (take the last train, lol). But since you try to take a trip each month, you MUST use July as a chance to go there to Peach Pickin Paradise – best peaches and nectarines and such fun doing it! My Dad lives up by the Ozark National Forest and I have sisters in Conway and Russellville, so we come that way at least yearly. I always plan to come when the orchard is open (usually the last 2 weeks of June). It’s probably an hour away from Little Rock. Petit Jean is great too.
Anyway, just throwing that out there as an option! I may have to go to Keo to, it looks neat!
PS – You need a fire tuck? We have one for sale, lol. It’s a 1939 and looks just like the one in the movie “A Christmas Story”!
Heather says
YAY! We are always open to suggestions for these little trips…July sounds like a perfect time to go to Clarksville!
And “need” is a relative term when we’re talking about the fire truck 😉 it was just more of a “that would be cool” thing!
