Happy day after y’all! Can you believe Christmas is over? It feels like it just got here…
Yesterday was a fun day spent in both Little Rock and North Little Rock. Oh, what’s that? You didn’t know they were separate cities? Or that you had two different Little Rock options?
It’s true…they are separate. The things you learn later in life can be amazing…
We got to spend some time with Nate’s paternal grandparents. something that’s always a treat. See, this is where the Italian side of Nate’s family comes in…and it was SO MUCH fun learning more about his Papa growing up in Pennsylvania with his Italian dad and grandmother!
We got to spend some time going through all of his dad’s (so Nate’s great-grandfather’s) naturalization papers, oaths to serve and protect the United States, and looking at photos from both World Wars. History is incredible, right? If only I’d cared this much in high school…
This was actually sent from the White House to honor Nate’s great-grandfather’s service in the Armed Forces…SO COOL! If you can’t tell I was geeking out all.day.long. This Italian stuff, immigration, and family honor just gets to me 🙂
We ended the day with me writing down recipes from Papa’s memories about things his family used to make. I kind of want to go out at 7AM and make fresh pasta with pasta sauces that were made by my hubby’s ancestors.
I think everyone thinks I’m crazy.
But then again, maybe I am…I mean it is 7AM the day after Christmas after all!

I love the Italian pride in the family. Peter’s family is Italian too and there is something special about that bond.

You’ll find the older you get the more interesting History becomes to you. Why is that? I have no idea. But now find my vacations revolve around going to all different museums and listening closer when the grandparents speak. That is so special that you have that kind of history in your family…cherish it, as you are!
A side note…speaking of Italians…my best friend whose parents are from Rome and she now lives in Torino, Italy, just brought me some Italian chocolates to die for! Real Italian pasta is the same….enjoy!

How awesome – I now wish I would have done all the geeky things on family vacations that my parents let me skip out of.. like going to Jamestown and colonial Williamsburg!
