Y’all, I’m about giddy right now with the fact that it’s actually starting to smell like fall! It’s been so hot for so long and I’m just so excited to really revel in the cooler fall days already. Yesterday I was hiking and it was just heavenly, even when it got warmer, to have that little bit of chill and wind to refresh me along the way.

hi heather! i have enjoyed heather’s dish for many years and you have led me to some of my favorite other blogs, too. anyone can fall victim to multi-level marketing companies, but the reality is that it’s really not about the products at all — from leggings to cookware to safe beauty products, the real money is in the salespeople, 90+% of whom lose money in these ventures. i would encourage you to do some deep research into this. it’s been disheartening to see your blog go in this direction — not because i have anything against the products themselves per se but because these companies actually prey on women, not empower them — it’s realkt not about the products; mlms are all the same when it comes down to it. i really do wish you the very best.
Hey Amanda,
I’ve had to sit on this comment for a few days because I wondered how I could/should defend myself and a company I have to care deeply about. So first I want to say that I am thankful that you cared enough to reach out and express concern. You certainly aren’t the first to express disapproval in this business venture of mine, nor will you be the last, but I am honored that you would do so in such a kind way. It’s obvious that you care.
I understand that there are a lot of MLMs out there that are less than ideal; for a long time I was very disheartened when I saw friends and family jump into them without any kind of research into the products or business structure. I was just as surprised as anyone when I realized that I felt called to jump into Beautycounter as a business. Before I signed up at all I poured over reviews of the business and products, spoke to current and former consultants, and looked at the investors and leaders in the company. And here’s what it came down to for me: because I have a very deep understanding on a personal level of the effects that toxins in personal care products can cause I knew that I wanted to jump in with a company that’s destined to change that. Whether I got rich or sold nothing, I wanted to educate others and give an alternative to the really terrible things that most people are putting on their skin.
In regards to Beautycounter, we are a certified B-corp which means we are a for-profit company certified by the nonprofit B Lab to meet rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency. Our mission is rooted in bettering the lives of literally everyone. And I know that I can speak for all of the consultants on my team when I say our mission is our #1 priority. Finally, because we know that not everyone wants to support friends and families engaged in network marketing, you can simply go to http://www.beautycounter.com and purchase directly from the company without supporting any one person.
As I said before I really appreciate you taking the time to craft a kind message, and I want to let you know that I did my research and counted up the costs. If you ever want to talk more about this I would be happy to – you can always email me at heathersdish {at} gmail {dot} com! I certainly hope you don’t stop reading the blog simply because of my work with Beautycounter, but if you choose to I wish you nothing but the absolute best!
