Y’all remember this one?
I doubt there’s a better way to start off a Wednesday morning that by hearing that song!
Well, and if that doesn’t do it for you, what about this sweet face?
That’s my little baby girl just waiting to leave for work…too cute, right? Speaking of faces, I managed to stuff this awesome chorizo burrito into mine:
I’ll be honest, for this past week it feels like we’ve been eating out a lot, and Nate confirmed that same thought today. I don’t know what it is, but we either haven’t had the time and/or haven’t made time to cook and eat at home…sad! I drowned my sorrows in some dark chocolate for about 14 seconds:
And then continued to sulk because we are getting to the point with eating out where everything starts to taste the same. Do you ever get like that? Where every restaurant starts to taste the same, whether it’s sushi or Italian. Then, like a beacon in the night, Nate prepared only the most wonderful salad on the planet for me from scratch. LET’S HEAR IT FOR THE BOY!!!
Greens, tomato, carrot, avocado, some shredded cheese, slivered almonds, chicken, and a drizzle of avocado ranch. Plus a slab of baguette to make sure I got it all 🙂 AMAZING. Seriously though, this salad was everything I could ask for and then some. Thank you sweetheart! :*
After washing my dishes I realized there were some leftover treats in the break room, so I promptly got the last bit of a pumpkin scone…reminded me of Thanksgiving and made me wish for cooler weather 🙂
I ended up just walking on my lunch break today since my feet are still covered in blisters from my genius barefoot walking escapades yesterday. To be honest, they’re still quite sore! So clearly I needed a Greyhound (vodka, grapefruit juice, twist of lime) before dinner tonight!
Who’s this? Heather, I thought you said you were a dog person? Yes, yes, you’re right…I am. This guy is PG:
PG. Like Parental Guidance. Or Porcupine Giggles. Or Plumb Gelato (YUM). Or Pussy Gato, which is actually his name 🙂 This is Robbie & Stef’s cat, who is likely the only cat I will ever like. Ever. Hear that, PG? We’re exclusive now!
Dinner was a big salad with roasted corn in it (genius and absolutely amazing!)
And an array of burgers, brats, or hot dogs to choose from:
I did the burger on a wheat bun with pepperjack and mustard, the side salad with Italian dressing, and this really cool smashed potato:
Smashed potato = a potato that has been boiled and then smashed, then broiled with herbs and fragrant olive oil. NOM.
We had a great night and I came to a realization that I don’t feel like I’ve shared on here yet because of the fact that when I write something I almost feel bound by it, so if I don’t stick with it (whatever ‘it’ is) then I feel like a failure. Which is something I’m working on, but regardless I thought I should share this with you guys:
I’m finally starting to find true freedom from disordered thinking and eating.
Now, that’s a bold statement, but let me explain. For the past 4 weeks or so I’ve noticed myself slowly being OK with only eating if I’m hungry, stopping when I’m full, and not obsessing over eating a tad too much or exercising a tad too little. It’s been a slow change, and it’s certainly nowhere near perfect, but I’m just so thankful to be finding any freedom at all that it’s huge! Another thing…I’ve noticed that this freedom has come as I’ve become more engaged in reading my Bible and truly praying in a relational way with God. Coincidence? I think not!
What have you found freedom in recently? What have you been able to let go of? What triggered that change in you? I think I pretty much shared mine, but I’ve also become OK with not looking at my stats 25 times a day for the blog, and actually have felt happier because of it! I’m tellin’ ya, it’s the little things!
Jennifer says
You’re absolutely right, it’s not a coincidence! When it comes to freedom in Christ, we read in the Bible that God offers non-Christians the chance to wipe away all of their sins and be forgiven and experience true freedom. But what we forget, is that after we become a Christian, God is still offering us freedom. When we fully rely on him, and turn our fears over to him, we can completely let go of anything that is holding us back. Keep up the awesome work girl!

ummm my freedom has been not having my phone around me 24/7….i used to look at it constantly always texting but recently I have been having more personal time away from the phone

AHHHH was so happy to read that! FREEDOM ROCKS FOR REAL. God came on this earth to conquer it ALL, and conquer it HE WILL!! freaking inspiring girl!

yay! that is seriously fabulous girl!! Freedom is an amazing thing. And I completely believe it’s related to your relationship with God. He is truly, truly amazing.
Megan @ The Oatmeal Diaries says
Aww adorable puppy! I love the transition from a dog to a burrito. Seamless. 🙂
And that’s SO amazing you are letting go of disordered thinking. You can do it!!
rebekah (clarity in creation.) says
girl – you are AMAZING!!!
disordered eating can rob us of so much of the joy that God wants to give us… you are incredible for claiming that joy as what you deserve!
keep praying for it, and keep claiming it!

Heather,
Congrats on breaking free from the disordered eating! I too have just about hit that mark in my life as well. For the first time in I can’t remember how long, I slept in instead of getting up to workout! And then, I followed suit by continuing to eat healthy all day! Normally I would start sobbing hysterically about sleeping in and then chalk it up as a loss by eating junk food 🙁 Quite the progress I have made. I was super proud of myself…however, I hadn’t even acknowledged the fact that I had done that until you asked the question! Thanks!

I just wrote a post about the fact that I am going to have to let go of triathlon training that has become a tad obsessive. Really it is not the end of the world if I don’t get to swim one day.
(That food all looks really yummy!)
Katie @ Health for the Whole Self says
That’s so wonderful to hear, Heather! I have definitely noticed that my issues with food and body image are worse when I’m not spending enough time with God. Reading my Bible and praying keep me grounded and focused on the bigger picture of life. When I lose touch with that – and focus too much on the here and now, and on myself, really – the food/weight issues inevitably crop back up.
Estela @ Weekly Bite says
I’m so glad you’re feeling better about your relationship with food! That’s awesome!
I can’t believe I’ve never heard of a greyhound before! I must try one 😉

I just want to give you a big HUG! First of all, you had me with the song – all I can think of now is Footloose. I think it’s so awesome that you are feeling the freedom from your relationship with food. I am in the same place and it is amazing to feel peaceful and not obsessive about food and working out. I can’t agree more about reading the Bible and praying – my mom always reiterates the power of prayer but ESPECIALLY urges me to read the Bible. Everything you need to know and practice is in there. I’m very happy for you!!

I think growing in the word and with God helps us find our confidence in Him more. I totally hear you! I’ve been spending more time reading my bible and reflecting on thoughts, etc. It brings peace to my heart. 🙂

I also have been eating out a lot lately… But the food still all tastes unique so maybe I should keep going? Haha, joking.
I liked hearing about your breakthrough with food! Just yesterday, I got a comment on my blog that wasn’t mean or anything, just an off-hand comment that was something about “good job burning off some calories.”
I never mention calories on my blog on purpose. I had just gone on a run for fun and because I felt like it (the comment was just supposed to be cheerful about the run I think). That comment really got to me though and I was shocked at how easy it is to get knocked around out there.
Keep your chin up! You’re doing a great job!

Your song brought a flood of memories…it was the song to my first cheerleading dance routine tryouts! Aggghh! Can you imagine me, a cheerleader? I did it only to prove that I could make the team. The cheerleaders thought they were such athletes.
One thing I have been able to let go (kind of) or find freedom in, is managing my competitive nature. Always needing to be the best or win. I ran track in college and long after that I would not run a 5k race unless I had trained and knew I could get first. Silly huh?
Well now I picked up tennis and while I am improving, I’m ok if I don’t win everytime. It is really fun too. I’m not so stressed out.
Precious pics of the animals…I have two dogs and a cat…all are super!

I totally know what you mean about all food starting to eat the same! That’s when you need some home cookin’ 🙂 I think I’ll have to try some roasted corn in my next salad and can’t wait to try smashed potatoes!!

First of all, I LOVE those little dove chocolates. too cute.
I love that you express that it’s been a slow change. I’m feeling the same way. Ive been trying to change and become more intuitive over the past year and it is SLOW. I realized it took me years to become so disordered in my thoughts, and it might take me a while to become “freed.” but, im getting there.
Tina says
Yay for feeling better and like you are letting go of the demons of disordered thinking. You are beautiful and such a wonderful person. It brings me true joy knowing you are feeling more at peace. 🙂
And pumpkin scone? Yum! I know I am going to be in SERIOUS trouble this holiday season. I adore pumpkin flavored treats and I will be in my third tri during that season when you crave food and are hungry all the time. Uh oh. LOL

YAY! Heather, I am so glad that you are getting to a better place with food and exercise. That is so wonderful and makes me smile so big for you! All change takes time and good things happen to the ones who are persistent enough to keep on going. Happy Wednesday to YOU!

I understand how you feel about constantly eating out… I have two friends who literally order out every night. I have no idea how they don’t get bored with it. No idea!

Oh my gosh…freakin’ LOVE that song. Seriously. I bust it out LOUD and PROUD when it comes on the radio. 🙂
Ha, I’ve stopped being obsessive over my stats too, and it feels really good 🙂

I have never heard of a Greyhound. Now I must try one. 🙂
