Last Friday of July

Good morning and happy Friday! How are y’all this fine last Friday of July?

Hold the phone…

Last Friday of July?!?!?!

Wasn’t it just January?!

I guess time really does fly when you’re having fun!  Yesterday’s breakfast was another SIAB (smoothie in a bowl).  The smoothie part is 1.5 cups of almond milk, 1 cup frozen strawberries, and 1 cup frozen pineapple:

And that cereal on top is AMAZING!  A week or so ago I was contacted by Attune Foods to see if I would like to test out their new Uncle Sam cereal (this is not my photo…I accidentally ripped the box!  Click on the photo for the source).

Now, I’m not much of a cereal gal, but I figured it never hurts to TRY so I said yes!  I am so glad that I did…this cereal is incredibly tasty, SUPER crunchy, not too sweet, and it packs a great nutritional punch too! Check out the stats from the Attune website:

You get all of that, plus flavor.  AND I’ve seen quite a few bloggers making savory dishes with it as well, which makes me really excited to start cooking with it too!  And so, in conclusion I believe that I have now become an Uncle Sam cereal girl 🙂  Thanks Annelies and Attune!

Lunch was great and free yesterday! Our landlord at work held a tenant appreciation BBQ lunch…but, since it was with the rest of my company, I did not do the food papparazzi thing.  I also ate way too much, which resulted in a crazy stomachache!  Bad choice, Heather, bad choice. I was feeling pretty gross the rest of the day, so when we got home I did the WillPower Method workout, and then made a healthy pizza for dinner:

This is half of a ball of Whole Foods pizza dough, 1/4 cup of Roasted Garlic marinara, chopped broccoli, sliced mushrooms, sliced zucchini, 1 piece of chicken sausage, and about 1/2 cup of shredded mozzarella.  I had half, and it was completely delicious!  Hurray for lunch today! 🙂

MARRIAGE REF FRIDAY

Today’s Marriage Ref isn’t really a referee situation, but I thought I’d see what you guys think!  A couple weeks ago I was talking to my good friend Cherise, who has 4 kiddos.  She was telling me that in a family with kids, there is usually someone who is the “picker,” meaning that person is usually the one who cleans up the boogers, the sleep in kids’ eyes, clips the fingernails and toenails, etc.  Basically this person is usually the one who takes care of all the nastiness that comes with kids.  This cracked me up because in our marriage I KNOW that I will be the “picker”…there’s no way that Nate would voluntarily do all of that stuff (although I know he would to help me out)!

And so, my question is this:  Do you agree that there is typically one “picker”?  And do you think that it would be YOU or your significant other?  If you already have kids make sure you weigh in…I’m super curious to find out what your perspective is!

We take turns. I’m all about the boogers though. I can’t stand boogery little noses. I get eye crusties too. Pea D. is the clipper. I wonder if he’ll clip mine…

Ha – well, I don’t have kids… but I will most certainly serve as the family picker. My husband picks up his fair share of doggy poo but has a, shall we say, weak stomach when it comes to the nasty stuff.

My boyfriend is the picker with our dog. He’s always cleaning out her eye boogs and wrinkles. I HATE boogers so hopefully he’ll carry this on with kids if we ever have any.
Glad you loved Uncle Sams. I eat it every day at work!

Hmm..well, I don’t know. My husband doesn’t have an issue with boogers or eye gunk or anything, but dirty diapers send him running! But its rare that he ever de-gunks our babies various parts so I guess I’m the picker. 🙂

Dude I hear you on the end of july – I cannot believe how fast time is going!! It blows my mind.

And I never watch marriage ref, but it sounds interesting? I might have to check it out 🙂

I know that I’ll be a picker but I’m not so sure that my fiance won’t do the same when he’s home with the kids. The only thing I have to go by right now is our dog and he takes good care of him and cleans up after him (even when it’s nasty). I think we’ll do well sharing in these tasks, but I’ll be with the kids more so I’m sure I’ll do my fair share.

There has to be one picker! Two is one too many! 😉 My mom was the picker. Funny enough…she still is!

I love the sounds of this cereal and wish I could eat wheat because I love it!

While I don’t have a man or a child, I could totally see myself being a picker. Basically nothing grosses me out and I would rather get nasty myself than have my child have boogers up his or her nose!

First of all, you have the best smile! Secondly, I am probably the picker. Although my husbie cuts the boys nails. For some reason I’m afraid I’ll cut too close or something. Strange I know. lol

Both Peter & I will get up in M’s nasty business. Although I will admit I do it more and get grossed out less.

I can’t believe it is August on Sunday. This year is flying by!! Yet, somehow, this pregnancy is NOT. Haha.

Um, I don’t know who would be the picker but all I have to say is that thinking of that makes me not want to have kids. Just kidding.

    Sort of.

I don’t have kids, but I do have a dog. I am definitely the picker. I clean up the accidental poo or puke. I also help her pick things out of her teeth occasionally, lol.

My husband will clean up a dog mess if I’m not home, although he’s always sure to tell me about it.

I definitely think he’ll be the gagging husband while I do the dirty diapers when we have kids.

Well, I was a single mom from the get-go, so it was always my turn for everything 😀 That being said, if my husband now had been around when Hannah was little, no way in hell he would help her blow her nose or change a poopy diaper!

I actually think my husband will be the “picker”. We don’t have kids yet but he wipes the sleep out of our dogs eyes all the time. It grosses me out! I’ll do it if I have to but I always go grab a papertowel or Kleenex and he just reaches over and dies it with his bare hand. Yuck! I do usually cleanup any throwup or accidents though so maybe we’ll both do it.

J and I don’t have kids yet, but I have a feeling that I will be the picker — but then again, I’m not sure. J kills the bugs and when we dog sit J always cleans up the “accidents”, etc, so I think we will have to wait and see!

First, thank you for posting the cereal nutrition. I know this is lazy, but seeing the nutrition details saves me the step of Googling them. And that cereal does look really healthy. I’m always looking for new kinds.

Jeff and I aren’t married, but I think the picker responsibilities will eventually be divided. He will handle toenails and fingernails, and I will handle the boogers and eye sleepies. I’m glad you asked the question – I always wonder if I’m the only person who gets some pleasure out of being a picker. And I’m really embarrassed I just said that out loud. 🙂

I am,always have been, and always will be the “picker”!
When our daughter was a newborn and I would have to pick narsty boogies, my hubby would gag.
Now she’s 6, so I clip her nails, etc.
He’s an awesome Dad, and he’s the do-er/getter.
Always doing things with her and getting her things.

Just two gals who crushed a 50 minute run today! Just two gals who crushed a 50 minute run today!

As we move into goal setting for the new year, may I suggest starting with your physical health? Not to fit the bikini body mold that society normalizes, but to actually BE as healthy as possible. When everything hit the fan for me this year I dug into two things that have been integral to creating positive growth and a healthier mindset:

1️⃣ my relationship with God
2️⃣ my physical health

What that’s looked like for me on the health front: holding fast to my commitment to whole food nutrition, grace for the days when I choose otherwise, pushing myself to lift heavier in workouts, and taking up running again.

What’s happened as a result? When I push myself physically, when I choose to practice discipline to do what I know is best for my body, it makes it infinitely easier to choose that same healthy discipline in every other area of life. You want to dominate your goals? Start with your health!
Remember when I blogged about food? 😂 Gosh the Remember when I blogged about food? 😂 Gosh the past few months have been nuts. I’m still over here figuring out how to eat well without sacrificing my life in the kitchen, and this is a bowl I couldn’t NOT share with y’all. The best thing is that everything is almost always on hand in my fridge, it’s packed with nutrition, and tastes AMAZING!

In the bowl:
-rice mixed with Trader Joe’s Zhoug sauce
-broiled shredded Brussels sprouts
-chickpeas
-baby arugula
-grilled chicken breast
-Romesco sauce (from Trader Joe’s but I usually make my own)
-a little tzaziki sauce

This meal has been on repeat all week, only changing the rice for riced cauliflower and omitting the chickpeas on low carb days. YUM! I find that if I have a variety of roasted veggies, grilled chicken, and a few different sauces on hand I can almost always come up with a great bowl for almost any meal!
It’s a beautiful day for Small Business Saturday It’s a beautiful day for Small Business Saturday y’all! Almost 4 years ago I took a leap of faith and said yes to this job in an effort to create another stream of revenue. I had NO CLUE that it would change my life for the better in almost every way, that it would reignite my passion for health and community, that it would provide in so many beautiful ways. But it has, and I am so thankful to all of you who have trusted me and supported me along the way.

When you shop with a small business you are literally a hero in their eyes, validating and supporting and protecting them. You guys are my heroes, and I want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart ❤️

3 things you can do RIGHT NOW to improve your day: 3 things you can do RIGHT NOW to improve your day:

1️⃣ SMILE! Even if you don’t feel like it, smiling (even forcing it to the point of feeling weird) has actually been scientifically proven to improve mood, lower stress, and boost your immune system. I actually recommend doing it awkwardly around other people because it’ll make them smile too 😉

2️⃣ GRATITUDE! Right now, before you talk yourself out of it, say or write 3 things you’re thankful for. Big, small, or in between. In this moment I’m going to say sticky notes, my Le Creuset Dutch Oven, and the Hamilton soundtrack. BOOM!

3️⃣MOVE! Get up off your tush, right now, and move your body. Walk around your house, do some jumping jacks, lock yourself in the bathroom and do a little dance, whatever. This isn’t about looking cool, it’s about giving yourself a better day.

Things are hard, ambiguity and uncertainty isn’t fun, but we can control ONE THING: ourselves. Praying that you choose to gift yourself a little bit of happiness today!

Now, tell me below, what’s one thing you’re thankful for RIGHT NOW?
