Kauai: Day 3 – Kayaking

Rebecca is on Faces of Beauty today!  Make sure you stop in and say hi 🙂

Long time no talk, right?  I got a little caught up in my vacation the past couple days…turns out it’s hard to blog when you wear yourself out during the day 🙂

The third day of our vacation in Kauai we did something I’ve never done before:  kayaking!

I was so looking forward to it and believe me – it did NOT disappoint!  I don’t have any photos of us kayaking (cameras + water = no bueno), but above is a shot of the Menehune Fishpond right next to the Hule’ia River we kayaked.  Y’all, it was just the most incredible place!  Nate and I are officially buying a kayak to play with in our local lakes so we can get our fix from now on 🙂

The tour was also complete with a hike through the jungle, something that I was a little scared about but turned out to be amazing (why do I doubt these things…?)

Waterfalls and roosters everywhere!

So, since I am always one to be on the edge of breaking news, there’s a Pirates of the Caribbean 4 coming out in May 2011, and a LOT of it was shot in the area we hiked through!  The pond below is in the movie, which means that I’ve been swimming in the same water as Johnny Depp.

Yes, you can have my autograph.  Self-addressed and stamped envelopes only, please and thank you.

AND – another amazing new thing – I jumped off a rope swing for the first time EVER!  Was it graceful?  Let’s just say I need a little more practice…

Nate did a killer running man super-flip (minus the flip part) into the water.  Style points = 1,000,000.

The ONLY thing I would have changed about the day was the fact that we kayaked out, hiked, and then rode a boat back in…but I would have loved to have kayaked back!  Such a great workout and so much fun.  I need a kayak.  Immediately.

I think one of my favorite things about the tours that we went on was the stories…legends passed down from hundreds of year…that run rampant on the island.  It makes everything just that much more romantic and fun!

Later today we’ll see some shots of the worst fashion day of my life…but til then, mahalo!

Gorgeous pics…again thank you for sharing them with us. I kayaked in FL which was a little scary cuz’ you are closer to the Gators…but it is a fun way to get a great workout and see things you normally would not experience looking from the shore or a bridge. Once you do it you are hooked! Keep having fun!

What a wonderful vacation. My man is not so adventurous, but I sure wish he would do these types of things with me.

I kayaked for the first time this summer and immediately fell in love.
    Isn’t it wonderful fun?!!

Those photos are so gorgeous. I love kayaking so much. We always do it in Michigan. My dad has done it around here a few times but I’ve never gone. It’s so fun!

I love kayaking! With my bad knees, it’s been one of the best ways for me to get exercise. It’s so much fun and a wicked arm and ab workout!

Heather – SO glad yall got to kayak! Chad & I kayaked for the first time on our HM in Maui – and we were totally hooked – except we snorkeled on our kayak trip instead of hiked. Which then led to us buying snorkel gear…but I kinda wish we had gotten a kayak instead! We have been out a couple times since moving to FL – we can rent them super cheap on base! And we get the two seater so I can enjoy the view in the front while Chad does most of the paddling 🙂

Oh I love kayaking too! It’s such a peaceful and relaxing sport (well, depending on your river/lake). I can’t imagine how beautiful it is to kayak in Hawaii though.

Glad you had a great time!
