How the FASTer Way to Fat Loss Has Changed My Life and why I would recommend this program to anyone looking to make a change in their body.
It’s hard to know where to start, so I suppose the beginning will have to do. I honestly cannot remember a time when I wasn’t hyper aware of my size, my weight, or the way that I look. Even though my parents did a great job of telling and reminding me that I was beautiful inside and out, I always still felt ‘off.’ Perhaps it was because I was significantly taller than everyone else I knew – that extra height added extra weight compared to my gymnast-sized friends. I’ve always loved being tall, but in a 8-year-old girl’s mind weight can sometimes just be weight…no matter how it comes around.
I remember days of trying to subsist on a bagel a day as a high school athlete. Always feeling guilty for consuming anything – God forbid I eat, let alone enjoy it. College brought about its own challenges and attempts at losing weight and always, ALWAYS over-exercising.
I tell you guys this because old habits die hard. While I know I’ve grown significantly in my faith, and the love of my family and friends has helped me through some truly hard times, I also knew that I needed to find a way to learn to appreciate food again. Not love it, because that’s always been part of the problem. But to appreciate and enjoy it for the life and energy and sustenance it provides. I tried all the things – counting calories, Keto diets, Paleo diets, Whole30 challenges, intermittent fasting (alone, by itself), vegetarian, all the meatless Mondays. All the things. While they all provided results for a time, nothing stuck – nothing felt doable long-term, and they all just left me weary at the end of the day trying to figure out what the heck I should be eating.
Earlier this year my (now) friend April Formo and I started conversations about Beautycounter, which eventually evolved into me learning more about FASTer Way to Fat Loss. She told me time and time again that she thought I should give it a try, but I put it off. Then one day I just felt the extra pain in not being confident in my body, having zero energy, and feeling lost when it came to knowing how to eat so that I wouldn’t have to worry what to eat. I signed up.
And then I went all in.
I’d love to sit here and tell you that I immediately jumped in with perfect understanding of how to do this program. I certainly thought I already knew what I was eating – heck, I’d spent years educating myself on what foods were “good” and which were “bad” and which ones I should eat in massive quantities, and which ones to stay away from. I thought I just needed the extra accountability to really force me to get it right once and for all.
For anyone unfamiliar with the way the program works (and granted I can’t give away ALL the info: it’s a combination of a lot of things, all backed by science and all very effective. You start with intermittent fasting, which is good for so many reasons, and probably the thing people are the most concerned with. If you take it easy and ease into it, intermittent fasting is actually super doable and not at all hard. If you go into it cold turkey though? Prepare to be miserable. Do yourself a favor, listen to your coach, and go slow.
Then comes counting macros. This is the part I struggled with the most because I figured I was eating healthy food – how could I NOT know the every detail of what I was putting in my body? Turns out I was really wrong about how many of each macronutrient was passing my lips, and it was a lot more than I thought. Tracking this was kind of a pain at first, then got really fun (once I got the hang of it), and now feels almost second nature.
Next up? Carb cycling. This is really one of the biggest and best kept secrets with the FASTer Way to Fat Loss so I won’t reveal the details, but carb cycling will absolutely change your life. It will also teach you just how dang cool your body is; trust me, I geeked out over this a LOT.
When you combine it all with effective (not long, effective) workouts you start seeing results rather quickly. And yes, it may seem like a lot (especially if nutrition and exercise are new to you) – but I promise it becomes second nature quickly. YOU CAN DO THIS!
Y’all, I look back at that girl (which was only 2-1/2 months ago), and I can’t help but laugh a little and shake my head. I had quite a bit of humbling to go through. However, on the other side of that humble pie I’ve finally found a way to eat and move and see food without getting obsessive again. I’ve found that I can actually do hard things like fast for 24 hours every now and then to reset my body and give my digestive system a break. I can say yes to obscenely delicious pancakes while also saying yes to my health.
Friends, I’ve found freedom. There’s no doubt that God brought me that, but he’s given me freedom that I never thought I would feel in regards to my food issues. And he did it through FASTer Way to Fat Loss.
I’m losing weight – slowly and consistently – but more than that I am enjoying food and then NOT THINKING ABOUT IT ANY MORE. For those who haven’t ever struggled with this you have no idea what a blessing this is – to have the freedom to think about anything outside of food has changed my life. I’m a better mom, I’m a better wife, I’m better at my job, I have time and energy to do other things. It’s incredible.
Other benefits I’ve noticed? Increased energy, increased focus, more regulated emotions, increased muscle tone, increased strength and endurance, better mood, clearer skin, less bloating, and (for me) best of all I’m doing this while still being able to enjoy carbs AND the occasional treat. Guys, I just can’t. I fought this for so long, and I’m so glad that April stayed on me. She is just such an amazing coach – encouraging, uplifting, inspiring, kind. She helped me when I couldn’t figure out how to get my macros in line, she listened and empathized and helped me find solutions, and she just never gave up on me when I couldn’t figure out what the heck I was doing. I will forever be grateful for her persistence and friendship!
