Farm Box Mania

You guys know that I’ve hinted at being a less-than-stellar gardener.  Despite that I refuse to say that I have a black thumb.

But I will say a huge THANK GOODNESS for Door to Door Organics!  Earlier this week they sent me a huge farm box filled with fresh goodies in the midst of Colorado Proud Month (including a massive head of Napa cabbage and a big bunch of lettuce that have already been consumed) and I was reminded yet again that I need to step it up on the gardening efforts.  Or not because I get such great stuff from them!  I mean really, there’s no way I’m going to go from garden-phobic to growing such stunning rainbow chard just like that.  I’ll take it!

How cute are the curly roots on the green onions?  I love those!

And this might just be me, but I kind of think that eggplants look like elephant seals.  I think that’s kind of a big reason I like eggplant 🙂

There were 3 huge zucchini and a big cucumber – but we already grilled two of the zucchini for dinner the other night.  Hey, homegirl’s got to eat!

I’ve never cooked collard greens before, but anything that is traditionally made with ham hocks in the process is something I can really get behind.  Viva la collard greens!

The box also came with 5 cloves of the cutest garlic I’ve ever seen…the bulbs are small but perfectly closed!  There are so many times I go to the store and half of the cloves on the garlic are falling off and look bad.  I’m kind of a garlic snob, so I’ll take the good garlic any day!

Check out the Door to Door Organics home page and if you live in any of the states mentioned you can use the code “heathersdish” to get 40% off of a bitty box!  It’s their most popular size and the perfect amount for myself and Nate.

I can’t wait to keep cooking with this great loot…and I’m especially looking forward to the collard greens.  Getting back to my Southern roots will be fun!

That is a fantastic concept. I think my city (Halifax, Nova Scotia) has something similar so I’ll have to hunt it down. And I never saw it before but eggplants DO look like elephant seals! Amazing!

Man! I saw these on Edible Perspective too and the service just looks awesome! I’m going to have to hunt around in Tucson to see if anything like this is there. BTW I’m a little jealous of that grilled zucchini. What are you going to do with the elephant seal?

Your goods look great. Nothing like fresh items from the garden (or someone else’s).

And I definitely think you should continue your home gardening efforts. It’s all trial and error – so its just one of those things you have to just do! I recommend raised beds…will make your like easier :).
