Because It’s Friday

Because it’s Friday, and because I woke up this morning simultaneously craving doughnuts and muffins, I decided to take a little leap straight into the pages of my Pioneer Woman Cooks! cookbook and make something for breakfast.

I feel like I saw these all over Bloggerland last year under the name “Doughnut Muffins” but I have to say that “French Breakfast Puffs” is much fancier.  And that’s just what I am:  fancy.

Here’s your one chance Fancy don’t let me down….

I digress.

The only change I made was halving the recipe since I really WANTED to eat 12 whole breakfast puffs coated in butter and sugar, but just because it’s Friday doesn’t mean you get to eat the farm.  Or the entire kitchen.  Or the whole batch of puffs.

You see, halving it was the only chance I had at leading a quasi-normal Friday.  Whatever that means.

Y’all, do yourself (and me) a favor.  Go make these immediately.  And then send me half; I don’t have time to make more before work and these are the best breakfast I’ve probably ever made.

I’m amazed there were any left for Nate, but he just walked in to the office and asked me to make more.  Honey, I would…but you wouldn’t get any.  I’d just dip ’em in butter and sugar and eat them as I went, inevitably angering my better half and there’s no reason to do that.  So let’s just meet downstairs and split the last one?

NOT! Muahahahahaha…it’s mine all mine.  Happy Friday y’all!

Yum. I have made these numerous times, but I make them in the mini-muffin size. After baking a rolling in sugar/cinnamon I lay them in a ziploc gallon sized bag and freeze them. When the mood strikes, I pull a bag out before bed, and my children now have delicious breakfast muffins for breakfast. Unlike you halving the recipe…I usually make 4 batches at once so I can freeze them. Especially since I eat nearly a dozen right out of the oven dripping with butter (hey, they’re mini sized)!!!

Oh my gosh, I wish I’d remembered this recipe while I was still at home for the holidays. I’ve heard so much about it and how good it is and wanted to make them for my family, and then I forgot. Oh well, from the looks of your pics, it’ll be worth the wait and I know they’re going to love them.

Oh dear… they remind me of the doughnuts my mom used to let us make on snow days!
And um… I’ve since rejected my country music roots, but I totally recognize that line. :p Looks like we’ve all got a little bit of Reba in us, huh?

I sincerely commend you on your ability to cut this recipe in half. It takes a lot of willpower. But on another note, how could you put yourself through such agony of only having half? 😉

I made these once and I think they were gone before drew got home from work. Another batch is no doubt called for someday soon! We could do it together and double (triple) it!
