Baconized Chocolate

Good morning! Halfway through the week…can I get a “WOOHOO!” from all of y’all?! ๐Ÿ™‚ย  Yesterday’s eats were pretty amazing; first up, a Pina Colada GM:

Turkey sandwich on whole wheat with spinach:

Ok, ok, and some Doritos because they make my heart sing:

Lunch was super rainy, so I went to Whole Foods to read and picked up a packet Justin’s Chocolate Hazelnut Butter (I ended up just tasting this and then spreading the rest on some toast for Nate):

And now we get to this.

“This magic moment…”

There was a time when, in my infantile naivety, I was grossed out by the thought of bacon and dark chocolate.ย  Apart?ย  Perfect. Together?ย  Stank nasty.

Well my dear friends, I am OK with admitting my wrong on this one.ย  I purchased it on a whim, just thinking about the fact that I REALLY needed chocolate in that moment.ย  And so, in a moment of desperation, I went with my gut instinct.

“Mmmmmmmm…dark chocolate…….I can feel the worries of the day melting away……”

“But wait!ย  What’s that I taste?ย  A slight smokiness?”

“BAM!ย  Salt!”

“Dear Lord, thank you for chocolate, bacon, and salt.ย  Amen”

You know, it went a little something like that ๐Ÿ˜‰

________________________________________________

Dinner was amazing at our friend Emma’s house, and I’m not sorry to say that I ate about 5 pieces of garlic toast.ย  It’s been way, WAY too long since I last explored the amazingness that is butter + garlic + bread.ย  Dinner was this great pasta salad (there’s lettuce under there) with tomatoes, bell pepper, grilled chicken, and a Parmesan dressing:

Holy grapes!

Cookies…need I say more?!

We had a great time getting to meet new friends, and hang out with our amazing group.ย  Tonight should be fun…but I’ll just have to share the details of that later!

What’s the weirdest flavor combination you have ever heard of that sounds delicious?ย  What’s the weirdest one YOU’VE TRIED? If you have recipes, do share ๐Ÿ˜‰

I LOVE Vosges!! I’ve tried their wasabi, ginger, sesame dark chocolate and seriously could not get enough. Weird combo, but amazing.

My mom just told me about that chocolate + bacon bar, and was absolutely raving about it. Sounds really intriguing. As far as weird food combos go, I just made a smoky tofu salad with turkey bacon…and it was awesome. Tofu and bacon CAN get along.

Hmm. I don’t think any of my combinations are too out of the ordinary. I love sweet and salty foods together though, and have been known to dip tortilla chips into my smoothies.

Hahahaha. I thought it was disgusting as well. I just about vomited when I ate it. I remember exactly where I was, too. I was in the Chicago airport coming home from the Baron Baptiste workshop. It was vile.

Wow that dinner looks fab! And I’ve seen the bacon chocolate bars, but I’ve been to grossed out by the thought to try them. Now after reading your post, I’m more worried that if I did, I’d have to buy them frequently lol

those eats look pretty tasty! Can’t say I’d eat bacon in chocolate, but I *can* see the match – chocolate + salt = perfection. More importantly, chocolate + peanut butter …. and anything it wants to go on. Just sayin’. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I don’t think I could do bacon and chocolate. I’m not big on mixing random flavors. I guess I’m a foodie chicken!

I have to know what is in a pina colada GM. Sounds yummy! Just add pineapple?

I didn’t realize how wonderful sea salt would be with chocolate!

Hi Erin! The GM has 1 cup almond milk, 1/2 tsp coconut extract, 1 cup frozen pineapple, 1 frozen banana, and a ton of spinach! I would probably add a little more coconut next time though…and maybe some run ๐Ÿ˜‰

Potato chips in chocolate… it sounded so weird to me at first but then I tried it at a wedding when they had a chocolate fountain and chips and fruit and cakes on the side, and it was DIVINE.

Woohoo…it’s only Wednesday! I’m hoping the weeks go slower as we only have 3 left before school starts again.

Weird taste…Peanut butter and mayonaise. We grew up on this because my mom did not want us to have jelly, as it contained too much sugar and wanted us to get the protein. It really tasted good back then and we didn’t know any better that it was not right. But now I really don’t like mayonaise and LOVE peanut butter and jelly.

Gah! I’ve heard of that bacon chocolate but have yet to make it!! I made maple bacon peanut butter once that was amazing. The sweet maple, with the nutty peanuts, and smoky saltiness of the bacon was perfect. Yesterday I also tried the popular combo of watermelon and feta – it was good!
