Good morning! Halfway through the week…can I get a “WOOHOO!” from all of y’all?! πΒ Yesterday’s eats were pretty amazing; first up, a Pina Colada GM:
Turkey sandwich on whole wheat with spinach:
Ok, ok, and some Doritos because they make my heart sing:
Lunch was super rainy, so I went to Whole Foods to read and picked up a packet Justin’s Chocolate Hazelnut Butter (I ended up just tasting this and then spreading the rest on some toast for Nate):
“This magic moment…”
There was a time when, in my infantile naivety, I was grossed out by the thought of bacon and dark chocolate.Β Apart?Β Perfect. Together?Β Stank nasty.
Well my dear friends, I am OK with admitting my wrong on this one.Β I purchased it on a whim, just thinking about the fact that I REALLY needed chocolate in that moment.Β And so, in a moment of desperation, I went with my gut instinct.
“Mmmmmmmm…dark chocolate…….I can feel the worries of the day melting away……”
“But wait!Β What’s that I taste?Β A slight smokiness?”
“BAM!Β Salt!”
“Dear Lord, thank you for chocolate, bacon, and salt.Β Amen”
You know, it went a little something like that π

Dinner was amazing at our friend Emma’s house, and I’m not sorry to say that I ate about 5 pieces of garlic toast.Β It’s been way, WAY too long since I last explored the amazingness that is butter + garlic + bread.Β Dinner was this great pasta salad (there’s lettuce under there) with tomatoes, bell pepper, grilled chicken, and a Parmesan dressing:
We had a great time getting to meet new friends, and hang out with our amazing group.Β Tonight should be fun…but I’ll just have to share the details of that later!
What’s the weirdest flavor combination you have ever heard of that sounds delicious?Β What’s the weirdest one YOU’VE TRIED? If you have recipes, do share π
Jackie (Peaces of Earth) says
I LOVE Vosges!! I’ve tried their wasabi, ginger, sesame dark chocolate and seriously could not get enough. Weird combo, but amazing.
Lindsay says
My mom just told me about that chocolate + bacon bar, and was absolutely raving about it. Sounds really intriguing. As far as weird food combos go, I just made a smoky tofu salad with turkey bacon…and it was awesome. Tofu and bacon CAN get along.

RunToTheFinish says
the weirdest I remember is when I was younger someone made a mayo and pb sandwich..i loved it!! i wonder how I got chubby π
lisasfoods says
Hmm. I don’t think any of my combinations are too out of the ordinary. I love sweet and salty foods together though, and have been known to dip tortilla chips into my smoothies.
katecooks says
i’ve seen and been scared of that chocolate but i do love sea salt chocolate so maybe i will have to give it a try!!
Christie {Honoring Health} says
Hahahaha. I thought it was disgusting as well. I just about vomited when I ate it. I remember exactly where I was, too. I was in the Chicago airport coming home from the Baron Baptiste workshop. It was vile.
Laury @thefitnessdish says
I am all about the weird food combos!!! I made Watermelon Gazpacho the other day (recipe is up there)…it was DELISH…and refreshing in the heat! haha, my hubby thinks I am SO weird π
Back in the day I used to put eggs and peanut butter in my oatmeal in the AM…I can’t even believe that now, yikes!
Alycia @ Fit n Fresh says
Wow that dinner looks fab! And I’ve seen the bacon chocolate bars, but I’ve been to grossed out by the thought to try them. Now after reading your post, I’m more worried that if I did, I’d have to buy them frequently lol
Katie @ Health for the Whole Self says
I thought the eggs + jam combination sounded disgusting, but I went ahead and tried it anyway…it wasn’t bad!
amanda says
cookies, grapes, pasta and bacon chocolate? oh my! i have a friend who loves chocolate covered gummy bears. but something about THAT combo makes my nose cringe.
Heather C says
those eats look pretty tasty! Can’t say I’d eat bacon in chocolate, but I *can* see the match – chocolate + salt = perfection. More importantly, chocolate + peanut butter …. and anything it wants to go on. Just sayin’. π
Tina says
I don’t think I could do bacon and chocolate. I’m not big on mixing random flavors. I guess I’m a foodie chicken!
Jenny says
Hmm, I must admit that I’m still kind of grossed out at the combination… I’ll just have to pick some up later and give it a whirl.
Erin @ A Girl and Her Mutt says
I have to know what is in a pina colada GM. Sounds yummy! Just add pineapple?
I didn’t realize how wonderful sea salt would be with chocolate!
Heather says
Hi Erin! The GM has 1 cup almond milk, 1/2 tsp coconut extract, 1 cup frozen pineapple, 1 frozen banana, and a ton of spinach! I would probably add a little more coconut next time though…and maybe some run π
Beth says
Potato chips in chocolate… it sounded so weird to me at first but then I tried it at a wedding when they had a chocolate fountain and chips and fruit and cakes on the side, and it was DIVINE.
Estela @ Weekly Bite says
I need to try that bacon chocolate! I love the sea salt chocolate, so there’s no reason why I wouldn’t love this π
Jessica @ Dairy Free Betty says
I vote peanut butter and BACON! Oh yes, My hubby to be made me try it, and now I drool every time I smell bacon!! π
lisaou11 says

couchpotatoathlete says
I’ve seen bacon + chocolate on Top Chef before, but I just didn’t think it would taste good!
I remember the first time I had mayo on french fries — I thought it sounded so weird, but it is delicious!
lindsay says
Oh I’ve been dying to try that bacon chocolate bar. NOw you’ve got me hooked, must go buy now! π
Anna says
Ha, I’ve seen that bar before! I’ve had some of their other chocolate, and it’s really yummy!
Salah says
ummm I love weird foods….but Spirulina was probably the one ingredient that sounded really strange to me before I started using it….now I absolutely LOVE using it in all my smoothies π
ps. I’ve been making my own version of pina colada green smoothies π
Lindsay says
I was just looking at that bar in Whole Foods and wondering how the bacon is with chocolate. Now I’m kicking myself for not grabbing one!
spabettie says
we recently tried that Vosges bacon bar… it was delicious…
lately I’ve been making wraps out of nori – seaweed sheets… I put anything in there, they are SO good.
Evan Thomas says
I had their milk chocolate bacon and I was underwhelmed. I’ll have to try the dark!
Mary says
I needed to add that they were pb and mayo sandwiches that we had for lunch.
Mary says
Woohoo…it’s only Wednesday! I’m hoping the weeks go slower as we only have 3 left before school starts again.
Weird taste…Peanut butter and mayonaise. We grew up on this because my mom did not want us to have jelly, as it contained too much sugar and wanted us to get the protein. It really tasted good back then and we didn’t know any better that it was not right. But now I really don’t like mayonaise and LOVE peanut butter and jelly.
Susan says
Gah! I’ve heard of that bacon chocolate but have yet to make it!! I made maple bacon peanut butter once that was amazing. The sweet maple, with the nutty peanuts, and smoky saltiness of the bacon was perfect. Yesterday I also tried the popular combo of watermelon and feta – it was good!
Kelly says
Looks like such a yummy day! Sheesh…wanna trade lives? haha!!!
I actually like PB and swiss cheese sandwiches. I know! I know! Weird…but it is really good!!
Evan @swEEts says
I’m a huge fan of this new bacon-chocolate craze.. bacon should really be incorporated into as much as possible if you ask me π The weirdest combo (before the craze) I’ve tried was a peanut butter bacon sandwich which turned out to be amazing. Just read your story too.. so awesome! Can’t wait to keep checkin out you blog!
