Hey guys!  Happy Friday to you all 🙂  I’m actually still sick, so I’m waiting for the doctor’s office to open so I can hopefully make an appointment.  There’s a new, weird development:  my skin hurts!  Not my muscles, but my skin is sore to the touch…anyway, I hope I can get in to see someone today because that doesn’t seem normal.

Dinner last night was Sausage, Onion, and Pepper Hoagies with a big side salad!

I tried my hand at the nut butter parsnip fries I saw on Oh She Glows last week too.  MAJOR FAIL. They tasted horrible and the texture kind of grossed me out.  Guess I know that I don’t like them now!  The sandwich, however, was fabulous:

Such a simple recipe too!

  • 1 pound turkey sausage links
  • 1 red bell pepper (or whatever color you like), sliced into 1/2 inch strips
  • 1 onion (I used a yellow onion), sliced into 1/2 inch strips
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp each of dried basil and dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup prepared marinara (I used a jarred sauce)
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 5 hoagie rolls
  • mozzarella cheese

In a skillet over medium heat, heat 1 Tbsp of olive oil.  Add the sausage links and cover, cooking for 5 minutes on each side.  Remove from heat onto a plate and cover with foil.  In the same pan, add the peppers and onions and 1 Tbsp of water to deglaze the pan.  Cover and cook for 3-5 minutes, stirring frequently, until vegetables are tender.  Add the garlic and cook for another 1-2 minutes.  Then add the marinara and 1/2 cup of water and stir to combine.  Cover and cook for about 3-5 minutes.  Meanwhile, cut the turkey sausage links into 4-6 pieces per link.  Add back to the skillet and cook for 1-2 more minutes.  Remove from heat and serve either by itself or in a hoagie roll topped with a little mozzarella.  Done!

With a simple salad of romaine and carrots:

We also had some break ‘n’ bake chocolate chip cookies, but I didn’t take pictures of those.  Basically as soon as we were done eating and cleaning up I went to bed.  I was SUCH a party pooper, but I felt horrible and figured sleep would be just what I needed!

This morning I got up and realized that I still felt bad and should likely go to the doctor.  My mom mentioned I might have the flu, which scares the crap out of me, so if that’s the case I want to make sure I can get better soon!  I had leftover split pea soup for breakfast because it just sounded good:

It just feels good to have something warm to eat!  I’ll keep y’all updated on the situation once I know a little more, but thanks so much for all of your well-wishes and great advice!

MARRIAGE REF PART 3 (that’s what the title of this post is supposed to be…just in Spanish!)

So this is actually not a HUGE issue in my marriage, but I did have quite a few of you write in about this little issue, AND it’s something that definitely needs to be addressed in my workplace 🙂  When you load the dishwasher, do you prefer to leave the food particles/sauce/etc on the dishes, or rinse and scrape them completely before putting them into the dishwasher? Sorry, no pictures today!  Make sure you leave a comment with what you prefer and at the end of the day I’ll tally them up and we’ll have a winner!!!  Remember:  you could be helping someone’s marriage by doing so 🙂

I vote….rinse off the food, but it doesn’t have to be COMPLETELY. Is that an okay answer? haha.

Your hoagies look delicious!! And I love that someone else calls them “hoagies” (instead of subs) 🙂

You MUST rinse the dishes before they go in– otherwise, they’ll just come out still dirty, and then, what’s the point?

Yummy dinner– sorry you’re still sick, lovely lady 🙁

I rinse and scrape but my dishwasher is not the greatest. I think it would depend on how often it’s run and how powerful it is. My sister insists that rinsing first wastes a ton of water and encourages us (when we’re all home) to just wipe it off with our used napkin and skip rinsing. So for the environmental impact… but that could be another argument 😉

Feed a cold, starve a flu. Have you had much of an appetite?
To answer your MRF question I am all for rinsing the dishes first. Better to be safe than sorry!

Love the questions. We just put them in the dishwasher unless it is something smelly. But funny thing my mom cleans them completely and it bugs her that I don’t.

How sad is it that I didn’t even notice the title was in Spanish. Sometimes I read or hear things in Spanish and don’t even differentiate between the two languages anymore since it all makes sense in my head. LOL

And I rinse some plates and not others. I scrape off leftover bits in the trash and then put them directly in the washer…unless there is something very sticky. Then I have to rinse it clean.

I rinse the food off before putting dishes into the dishwasher. My hubby actually is more obsessive about this and basically cleans his plate before putting into the dishwasher to be cleaned.
The one thing I’ve really noticed is that people who run their dishwasher every day need to have their dishes less clean than if you only run your dishwasher once or twice a week. The time that residue has a chance to get “caked on” makes a huge difference in how clean the dishes need to be. But yeah, on this argument, my husband and I are in agreement.

It’s no question for us, scraped clean-ish. BUT that’s because we have an old house with old sewer pipes.

A plumber once told us to be sure we don’t do food scraps down the drain or it spells d-i-s-a-s-t-e-r for us, haha.

I scrape the dishes mostly into the garbage instead of pre-washing them because it saves some water.

I think I am the only person thus far that just puts my dirty dishes into the dish washer. I was always told by my mom that the dishwasher was invented to get all of the yuck off and we run the dishwasher every day, so the food doesnt sit on the plates too long anyways!!

    That sandwich looks awesome!

I rarely rinse/scrape dishes. The dishwasher gets them super clean so I’m not too worried. 🙂

mustmustmust be rinsed clean. Bf eats alot of pb&j, and he’s always wondering why the knives never come clean in the dishwasher. Well hmm … maybe because half a jar of peanut butter is still on it when you put it in the rack! lol

Definitely rinsed, with no food particles. There’s nothing worse than having to wash them AGAIN when they come out of the DW and the food is now dried on!

Oh yeah, I definitely need the dishes rinsed and scraped before they go into the dishwasher. Once in awhile my husband tries to sneak an unrinsed/unscraped dish in there but he knows he’s busted when he hears “oh no you didn’t ” ….gets him everytime!!

Oh, they MUST be rinsed! Thankfully, my husband and I are both equally freaked out by gross, left-on food, so regardless of who does the dishes, they get scraped and rinsed!

I’ve always thought that the dish washer should more accurately be called a dish sanitizer. I get them mostly clean, then the dishwasher comes and does its job!

Ohhh I NEED the dishes to be rinsed/scraped before they go in.. it drives me nuts when my boyfriend doesn’t do that!

What’s worse is sometimes he’ll say he’s “got it” in terms of clearing the table and I’ll wander into the kitchen an hour later and the plates are just stacked next to the sink… not rinsed, or scraped, or even in the dishwasher.

I am quite a freak about the dishwasher. The dishes are practically clean when I load them in. Not sure why I don’t just do them all by hand instead but I feel like they get extra sanitized after being run through the dishwasher. My kids are just the opposite – throw them in there caked with food but only if I’m not there watching them! I try not to make a big deal of it but inside I am screaming!

We run our dishwasher maybe once every three weeks, so it’s definitely vital that we rinse the dishes. Good thing the BF and I are both kitchen clean freaks.

Ohhhh snap! Those dishes have to be spotless. NO MATTER WHAT.

(however, I have heard of dishwashers that are very expensive and actually work better when the dishes are dirty..????)
