All Baked Out

This weekend I didn’t cook anything.

OK that’s a lie.  I did help making 20 chocolate cakes using this recipe.

In case you were wondering, 20 chocolate cakes is a lot of cakes to make.  I didn’t think it would be that tiring, but let me promise you this:  when you are making 4 cakes at a time and have to hand-stir in 15 eggs one at a time there is energy being spent.  Trust me.

You know, nothing a little entire bag of Doritos couldn’t handle, but still.  The three of us were exhausted and I believe (believe it or not) that the words, “I never want to eat chocolate again” came out of each one of our mouths at least once during the day.

I know.  I take it back.  But maybe in a week…

So what were we making 20 cakes for?  Well, Bekah is getting married in 2 weeks and since they didn’t want a traditional wedding cake she decided to make her own cakes for each reception table (these particular cakes freeze REALLY well – promise we’ve tested it!).  Since I like to bake I was totally on board with helping.  Amy is a great friend and helped too.  Three people making 20 cakes does 3 very tired friends make!

So what was the final tally on ingredients?  Let’s see…

  • 26 bars of chocolate
  • 8 pounds of butter
  • 75 eggs
  • 20 cups of sugar
  • 15 Tbsp of flour

These cakes are super healthy.  Totally healthy.

Trust me.

3 very tired, very happy, very chocolate-d out friends!

I will remember this post when I ask my friend to make my wedding cakes. Hopefully I will make it up to her with a bottle of wine and a big bear hug.
    How sweet of you!

The picture of you three is too funny! I had a (mostly) DIY wedding, and it was exactly that: fun AND exhausting!

Great idea and a cake that freezes well . . . what a find! It looks like one of those sort of flourless cakes which are completely delicious. Lucky wedding party.

Chocolate warriors! That’s one heck of a way to spend the weekend, hope you get to enjoy them at the wedding at least?

I’ve had my marathon baking days, too. Whether it be a wedding cake I made for my friend or my day of christmas baking, the day always ends with us flopping onto the couch with a stomach ache and the statement of how we will never eat sugar again… lol
