- Being married is FUN! I know that’s the idea anyway – that marriage is fun – but I feel like so many times people talk about how hard marriage is. And it is…hard that is. But it’s also the most fun I’ve had in my entire life. I tell Nate this all the time, but I have more fun every day and he gets even funnier to me every day. I love being with my best friend!
- Marriage is also hard. You go from being single and doing whatever you want to being married to someone, living with someone, loving someone with the intention of FOREVER. It can be kind of daunting and just like any relationship there are hard times. But working through those is also what makes it worth it!
- I’m kind of a brat. It’s true, and I’m lucky to have a man who is patient with me while I work through that. When we went through pre-marital counseling we were told that marriage is kind of like a mirror where you can see all of the bad parts of yourself. At first I thought that was totally depressing and weird, but I’ve come to find that it’s also true. I can see all of my junk, but I also have a partner who helps me work through it. So it’s actually not depressing at all, but encouraging to know that he loves me as I am, even when I’m bratty, but he also loves me enough to not let me stay there.
- Forever isn’t long enough. I can’t imagine life without my husband. Ever. And I believe that we have a once-in-a-lifetime love. And I believe that a lifetime isn’t enough time to love Nate as much as he deserves, but I’m so thankful that I at least get to try.
- It’s not about the wedding. Oh the days when all I was concerned about were the wedding details and making sure that we looked good on our wedding day. Don’t get me wrong, it was an incredible day and I loved every detail of it. Not to mention the planning wasn’t really that hard for us – we had a casual and fun wedding and really involved family that made it extra special. But the day came and went, and I found that what really matters is the relationship – the marriage. So if you’re getting married soon let me say this: have fun with the wedding planning, but know it’s not what really matters. When that day comes and goes make sure that you’ve taken the time to really love one another well, and then prepare to love one another well for the rest of your lives – emotionally, mentally, spiritually, physically. Oh, and make sure that you get really great wedding photos. Trust me on this.
Love you guys!

Love that wedding photo! You were such a beautiful bride. And I love your first reason on this list. So many don’t know that marriage can be fun! My hubby and I have a blast and have been for the past 10 years. I absolutely love being married to the most awesome man in the world (although, something tells me you may have that title reserved for another special someone :)). Thanks for linking up and I hope you’ll join us again next Thursday and share all the reasons you love and adore your hubby!

That is a sweet wedding photo. Looks like you didn’t even know your photo was being taken. Those are sometimes the best ones. Thanks for sharing your views about your marriage. I have been with my boyfriend for a year and a half and we plan on getting married. He really is my best friend. But, life does happen and difficult times come with it. I have to say that for me, even though we are not married yet, I have learned that I can grow to become more and more of the woman I want to be for him in direct proportion to how I am growing in my relationship with God. For a while I kind of put God on the back burner. That was not a good move, and when challenging times came up in our lives, I realized how much I needed God’s strength, mercy and grace to carry us through it. Now, I try to seek God first and then things just go so, so much better.
I enjoy your blog, Heather. Merry Christmas to you!

I love your honest approach as always. I’m pretty sure my 18 year old self would never be able to admit my faults – the things marriage does to us 🙂
I’ve only been married over a year, but I have learned that you just don’t sit back and let marriage happen, you have to work on it. You have to give 70% sometimes when you husband gives 30% and vice versa. So I strive to always keep improving how we do things: communicate, spend time together, treat each other. So yes, a lot of work, but boy is it worth it!

um yes, amen to all that. But the best part is that you have that special covenant. Nothing compares to that! Gorgeous bride!

We were just talking last night about how this eighth year of marriage has been our best (we celebrate 9 years next month). Better than year one, better than year five, better than ever. And to God alone I give that glory!
Thanks for sharing your heart <3

Thanks for the advice. : )
I’m getting married in July, and I think it’s funny how much women freak out about the wedding details. I’m trying to just stay organized and focus on the parts of the wedding that really matter, not the tiny details that no one will remember 20 years from now.
BTW, you were a beautiful bride!!
Heather says
It’s so true, there’s a lot of self-imposed pressure from a lot of brides to have a certain wedding, but once that day is over you will only really care about making it the best relationship you can!
